South London Ordnance on Juno.co.uk

Some kind words from Juno Records, giving our South London Ordnance and Tessela releases a great review:

"In the bass arena, Lone’s Galaxy Garden arrived on sumptuous double vinyl – as did Jimmy Edgar’s excellent album for Hotflush, Majenta, but our bass tip goes to South London Ordnance’s debut release, arriving on 2nd Drop no less. Always a label that seems to maintain an excellent sense of quality control, they complement an excellent release from Tessela with this 12” of dark, swung house styles, suffused with the kind of basslines you only find south of the river. Those looking for more of this kind of sound should check this week’s Juno Plus podcast from the aforementioned Tessela sharpish."

Make sure you check our Tessela's Juno podcast here,an excellent mix with lots of upfront tunes:

We also received another lovely review from Boomkat, see below:

"South London Ordnance debuts with his brilliant 'Sanctuary' and 'Roofy' cuts on 2nd Drop. Little is known about the fella and that's just how it is: his tunes do all the chat. A-side's 'Sanctuary' is a serious groove tool, body-syncing hi-hat strafes and ruffed-up snares with the deftness of a Beneath riddim, but placing more emphasis on wide-assed, 'floor-consuming bass and dark-end-of-the-warehouse reverbs for those who prefer to dance in the shadows. B-side's 'Roofy' is slower, murkier: voices are half-heard from the pill-eyed patina smudge of resonant drums, Motor City strings and offset bass nudges built with an instinctive grasp of what meks 'em swiiiiing. Smashing work, lad. Whoever you are."

DjRum Outlook Festival Review

Some nice words from Outlook Festival about DjRum and his Mountains EP.

Last year’s ‘Mountains’ EP for 2nd Drop blows most producers working in the ‘chilled’ dubstep milieu clean out of the water. It coolly walks a tightrope between sampleadelic diversity and luxuriant uniformity, all rich, muted blues, greys and greens.

Most strikingly, Manuel isn’t afraid of navigating through a range of tempos and soundworlds, refracting each in turn through his distinctive lens. There’s hip-hop (the opening of ‘Undercoat’), techno – generally of the dub-drenched variety (‘Mountains Part 1’) – and flirtations with two-step garage (‘Turiya’). Disparate sections are dovetailed together expertly.
It’s a record perfectly suited to the home-headphones ritual, where listening becomes a captivating wander through landscapes suffused with reverb, populated by half-heard monologues and verdant oases of jazz miscellany. It’s a connoisseur’s dreamboat, as highlighted by T++ naming the EP his favourite of 2011.

2nd Drop Records have gifted FACT magazine a pair of white label pressings of the single to give away to two lucky readers.

With support from the likes of Mosca, Tessela, Pedestrian, Dark Sky and Mary Anne Hobbs, the young Londoner has been making sizeable waves. His atmospheric productions are brittle affairs, struck through with a sense of doom and disconnection. He’s currently gearing up to release his debut 12″, the twisting ‘Sanctuary’/'Roofy’, and a striking first foray it is too.

Should you like to be in the running for a copy, send an email through to competitions@thevinylfactory.com with the word ‘Ordnance’ and your name in the title field.

The single is due on May 14. We will also be offering five fans the chance to win a free download of the single over at our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/2nddroprecords
